A Short Story… 50 Days in Blood: A Last Will and Testament after the Zombie Apocalypse.

Our friends over at Zpoc Awareness are having a short story contest… Here is my entry. I’d say go for it but it’s going to be damn hard to beat this.

It has been exactly 50 days since the Zombie Apocalypse began. It started on a beautiful Tuesday morning on the 13th of September 2011. It began near Boston and spread quickly westward across the US and then the world. I was driving to work early that day so that I could conference call with some of our east coast clients. When I finally got through the early morning traffic that always congests the I10 in Phoenix I was exactly 8 minutes late. I slipped into the conference room and my design team and the clients were already talking. I nodded my head apologetically and took my seat; got out my notes I had stayed up late working on the night before as well as the mock-ups of their new advertising campaign I had spent weeks preparing. That was the last few normal minutes I had or ever will have again. Continue reading

Zombie Apocalypse Psychology: Love thy Neighbors… Tough Love with a Shovel!

When the Zombie Apocalypse happens there are going to be some psychological hurdles to overcome. One being that all of us Survivors are going to have to swallow our humanity and start braining our friends, family and loved ones. Do you have it in you to forget the fact that the Zombie in front of you was once your dear old Grandmother or your neighbor Steve and his 2 Ginger kids? Can you  swing that shovel when the heat is on? I sure hope I can, but what does it take to become a blood-thirsty Zed-Hunter? Let’s take a look in this installment of, “Zombie Apocalypse Psychology: Love thy Neighbors… Tough Love with a Shovel!”. Continue reading

Ways to start the Zombie Apocalypse: Cotard’s Syndrome

While I was watching “Scrubs” (on accident) I saw a patient on there with something called “Cotard’s Syndrome“. A syndrome of mental depression where a person thinks that he or she has died and become a zombie. They even go as far as to say they can smell their own rotting flesh and feel worms crawling through themselves. The patient complains of having lost everything: possessions, part of or entire body, often believing that he or she has died and is a walking corpse. This delusion is usually expanded to the degree that the patient might claim that he can smell his own rotting flesh and feel worms crawling through his skin. The latter phenomenon is a recurring experience of people chronically deprived of sleep or suffering amphetamine/cocaine psychosis. Paradoxically, being “dead” often gives the patient the notion of being immortal.

So it got me to thinking that we all know what to do in the Zombie Apocalypse but what we don’t discuss a lot are the ways in which it could start. Let’s discuss “Cotard’s Syndrome” and how it could be used to start… A ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE!

This is how it starts: Man Wakes After 21 Hours in Morgue

JOHANNESBURG (AP) – A South African health official says a man awoke to find himself in a morgue fridge — nearly a day after his family thought he had died.

Health department spokesman Sizwe Kupelo said Monday that the man awoke Sunday afternoon, 21 hours after his family called in an undertaker who sent him to the morgue after an asthma attack.

Kupelo says the man started yelling, prompting morgue workers to run away in fear. They eventually returned and removed him from the fridge. He was then taken to a nearby hospital and later discharged by doctors who deemed him stable.

The mortuary owner says his family is very happy to have him home.

Kupelo urged South Africans to call on health officials to confirm that their relatives are really dead.

This is how it starts: Virginia girl found eating herself in cage in mobile home.

A Virginia girl was found caged and attempting to eat herself in a mobile home in Virginia and cops say her parents are responsible.

The malnourished girl, believed to be either 5 or 6, was discovered in a crib that was converted into a makeshift cage after police arrived at the home in Gloucester County to investigate a burglary last week.

The girl’s parents, Brian and Shannon Gore, were arrested and charged with felony child abuse. The mother was also charged with attempted capital murder.

Zombie Survival: MRE Review: The Final Word

This past week, I got together with some of my friends and we cooked up three MREs for review: Spaghetti with Meat Sauce, Beef Roast with Vegetables, and Cajun Rice, Beans, and Sausage. The results were very interesting, and well worth the effort. I’ve summarized our findings below, and I’ve even included a video review on youtube, in case you want proof that we did indeed eat all three MREs. Enjoy. 😉
