This is how it starts!

A man who lived with his girlfriend’s rotting corpse for six months has been convicted of raping and murdering her. San Joaquin County jurors yesterday found Devon Epps guilty of murder, as well as murder by torture and rape. Epps, from Stockton, was arrested after an apartment manager found the badly decomposed body of 35-year-old Veronica Jones in a bathtub in December 2011. At the time, Jones had been missing for six months.

Jones, a mother-of-ten, was bludgeoned in the head with a metal table pedestal, raped with a foreign object and stabbed 32 times. Her body was stashed in the bathtub. According to authorities, her face had been beaten beyond recognition.

After his arrest, his apartment building manager said he was violent and disturbed. “The only thing they told me is that it’s not a crime to be missing, that they have a right not to talk to family or friends, and she was basically not missing,” Zuniga said, according to the station. Epps was eventually evicted from the apartment, and an apartment manager discovered Jones body. Epps was arrested and charged with murder two days later.

Couple Convicted of Making Human Empanadas

Brazil – Brazilian trio Jorge Negromonte, 50, his wife Isabel Pires, 51, and his mistress Bruna da Silva, 25, are said to have lured the women to their house with the promise of work as a nanny before beheading, dismembering and quartering them.

The cult members then used their victims’ flesh to make stuffed pastries, known as empanadas, which they devoured themselves and sold to neighbors for 30p each police claimed.

Yesterday they appeared at court for the first time in their home town of Pernambuco, north-east Brazil, accused of murdering Jessica da Silva, Alexandra Falcao and Gisele da Silva, but did not enter pleas. However, police have previously said the alleged cannibals have confessed to killing another six unidentified people.

They allegedly killed 17-year-old Jessica da Silva in 2008, who was living with them along with her one-year-old daughter. Her innocent baby daughter was forced to eat pies made from her mother’s flesh as part of a ‘purification ritual’, it has been claimed.

FBI Agents Arrest NYPD Cannibal

OCTOBER 25–A New York City cop allegedly discussed plans to “kidnap, rape, torture, kill, cook and eat the body parts of a number of women,” according to a felony complaint unsealed today in U.S. District Court in Manhattan.

The officer, Gilberto Valle, 28, was arrested Wednesday by the FBI and is scheduled to appear today before a federal magistrate judge. Valle, a six-year NYPD veteran assigned to a Harlem precinct, exchanged e-mails and instant messages with two unnamed coconspirators about the bizarre plot, investigators allege.

The electronic communications were recently discovered by FBI agents during a court-authorized search of Valle’s computer. That review also revealed that Valle had “created files pertaining to at least 100 women and containing at least one photograph of each woman.”

The complaint alleges that Valle illegally used federal and state law enforcement databases to “locate potential victims,” and that he had been spying on some of these women at their homes and places of employment. He also allegedly drafted an “operation plan” to abduct and cook one woman, and researched “methods of disabling and drugging women.”

In one July communication, Valle wrote that he was contemplating tying one “tasty” woman “onto some kind of apparatus…cook her over a low heat, keep her alive as long as possible.” When asked about the size of his oven, Valle replied, “Big enough to fit one of these girls if I folded their legs.”

Dead bodies to be burned to heat UK swimming pool… YOU CRAZY BRITS!

Meanwhile in LONDON… Dead bodies will be burned to heat a swimming pool in the U.K. — and the British government is considering adopting the idea across the country.

Senior lawmaker Sir George Young, the leader of the House of Commons, told The Telegraph newspaper that he would “die a happier man” if he could arrange for his cremation to provide heat for swimmers. Redditch Borough Council is set to become the first local government body in England to use heat from a crematorium to warm a pool this spring, the newspaper reported.

“The government is aware of this particular scheme,” Young said. “The Department for Energy and Climate Change will shortly be publishing its heat strategy and this will explore the potential for better recovery and reuse of wasted heat in schemes such as this one.” The incinerators used to burn bodies reach temperatures of 1,472 degrees Fahrenheit and cited estimates that using the waste heat from the Redditch crematorium could save more than $22,000 per year.

Redditch Borough Council will be the first authority in the country to use a crematorium to heat a swimming pool. Work has already begun on the project, which is expected to be completed this spring. Since the plans were approved in February last year, they have won an award from the Green Organisation.

Carole Gandy, the leader of Redditch Borough Council, was quoted as saying she would rather the energy was used than “just see it going out of the chimney and heating the sky.”

“It will make absolutely no difference to the people who are using the crematorium for services,” she told The Telegraph. “I do recognise some people might not like it, but if they don’t they don’t have to use our crematorium. I wouldn’t want them to do that but they have to make that choice.”

Unison, a labor union representing public workers, has described the idea as “sick and an insult to local residents,” The Telegraph reported. It added that Durham Crematorium, in northern England, was thinking about fitting turbines to its burners in order to create electricity that could potentially power 1,500 televisions.

Zombie Eradication in Amish Country? UPDATED!

It appears that a 15-year-old Amish girl was shot in the head while driving her buggy home from a Christmas party… I know! Who would have thought the Amish partied? Regardless, they thought that she had fallen from her buggy but when she was taken to Akron City Hospital, doctors discovered the teenager had been shot in the head.

There are several theories about the shooting, including the possibility that the Amish buggy was targeted, or that Rachel was accidentally shot by a hunter.

“To think that somebody would do something like that to a sweet, innocent young lady,” said Zuercher, “I mean, she didn’t have a care in the world to anybody, and no problems to anybody.”

Hmmm… Likely story. The Amish aren’t immune from Zombification. It sounds to me like someone spotted a Zed in a buggy and took care of business. The death of Rachel Yoder is being investigated as a homicide; however, investigators are not sure if it was an accident or not.

Update 12/21/12
A man cleaning his muzzle-loading rifle shot the gun into the air, accidentally killing the 15-year-old Amish girl driving a horse-drawn buggy more than a mile away, a sheriff said Tuesday.

The man had fired the gun in the air about 1.5 miles from where Yoder was shot, Zimmerly said. State investigators were checking the rifle for a ballistics match, he said. “In all probability, it looks like an accidental shooting,” Zimmerly said. No charges have been filed.

A head-shot by a muzzle-loader at 1.5 miles? I want this guy on my Zombie Survival Team!

Mexico Mayan Region Launches Apocalypse Countdown

We here at Don’t Get Bit don’t discriminate between apocalypses. If you’re ready for the Zombie Apocalypse then you’re ready for anything! Only a year is left before Dec. 21, 2012, when some believe the Maya predicted the end of the world.

The Mayan civilization, which reached its height from 300 A.D. to 900 A.D., had a talent for astronomy. Its Long Count calendar begins in 3,114 B.C., marking time in roughly 394-year periods known as Baktuns. Thirteen was a significant, sacred number for the Mayas, and they wrote that the 13th Baktun ends on Dec. 21, 2012.

The doomsday theories stem from a pair of tablets discovered in the 1960s at the archaeological site of Tortuguero in the Gulf of Mexico state of Tabasco that describe the return of a Mayan god at the end of a 13th period.

Cities and towns in the Mayan region are starting the yearlong countdown on Wednesday. The city of Tapachula on the Guatemalan border will start an 8-foot (2.5-meter) digital clock in its main park to begin the countdown exactly a year before the date.

While some doomsday theorists may suggest putting together survival kits, people in southeastern Mexico, the heart of Maya territory, plan to throw a yearlong celebration. And to make a profit while they party.

Zombie Apocalypse Weapon Pron: Hypersonic Flying Bomb

The Pentagon on Thursday held a successful test flight of a flying bomb that travels faster than the speed of sound and will give military planners the ability to strike targets anywhere in the world in less than a hour.

Launched by rocket from Hawaii at 1130 GMT, the “Advanced Hypersonic Weapon,” or AHW, glided through the upper atmosphere over the Pacific “at hypersonic speed” before hitting its target on the Kwajalein atoll in the Marshall Islands, a Pentagon statement said.

Kwajalein is about 2,500 miles (4,000 kilometers) southwest of Hawaii. The Pentagon did not say what top speeds were reached by the vehicle, which unlike a ballistic missile is maneuverable.

Scientists classify hypersonic speeds as those that exceed Mach 5 — or five times the speed of sound — 3,728 miles (6,000 kilometers) an hour.

The US Army’s AHW project is part of the “Prompt Global Strike” program which seeks to give the US military the means to deliver conventional weapons anywhere in the world within an hour.

This Is How It Starts: Antibiotic-resistant infections spread through Europe

All of us at Don’t Get Bit spend our time on the blog trying to both keep you prepared and informed about the Zombie Apocalypse. Once again we bring to you… “This is How It Starts: Antibiotic-resistant infections spread through Europe.”

Experts blame overuse of medicines for huge rise in bacteria that are almost impossible to treat.

The world is being driven towards the “unthinkable scenario of untreatable infections”, experts are warning, because of the growth of superbugs resistant to all antibiotics and the dwindling interest in developing new drugs to combat them.

Reports are increasing across Europe of patients with infections that are nearly impossible to treat. The European Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (ECDC) said yesterday that in some countries up to 50 per cent of cases of blood poisoning caused by one bug – K. pneumoniae, a common cause of urinary and respiratory conditions – were resistant to carbapenems, the most powerful class of antibiotics.

When a man decided to dig a plot in his New Orleans backyard for a swimming pool, he ended up discovering a historic cemetery that dates back to the 1700s.

It’s not the first time bodies have been discovered underground in the area – in 1984, 36 corpses were found when an apartment complex was being built.
