In larger zombie outbreaks the situation gets dramatically worse. It is unlikely that a small survival kit is enough to handle a large zombie up rising. Keep that in mind when packing your bag with this guide.

This is a detailed description of what an zombie survival kit is and some specialized modifications for zombie encounters.
An zombie survival kit is a collection of supplies which have been prepared to aid in the survival of a disaster or emergency situation such as hurricanes, earthquakes, and other natural disasters but in particular a Zombie Apocalypse. A good zombie survival kit contains tools to provide the basic survival necessities such as shelter, food, water, and first aid. It this case we want to prepare a kit specialized for a zombie encounter.
There a few types of survival kits; stashes, mini-kits and bug-out kit. A stash is a large collection of horded food and supplies usually set up for long term use under siege situations. Mini kits hold basic supplies and are designed to fit in small places such as a motor vehicle. Bug-out kits or Bug Out Bags (BOBs) are portable zombie survival kits also known as “Personal Emergency Relocation Kits”; these are used for quick escape and survival for a few days. BOBs usually also contain tools that aid in gathering resources for more prolonged times after limited supplies run out.
Before creating an emergency zombie survival kit or kits you must ask yourself a few questions: What type of kit should I make? How many people will I be providing for? Where should I keep my kit? How much food and water do need? Where would I go under extreme conditions? First… Look at your surroundings. If a zombie outbreak were to happen right now are you in a safe location? This is a great deciding factor for preparing your kit. Think of any situation that could happen and consider preparation for the most probable dangers. What will you need in your kit? Every situation is different for everyone and kits can be modified for specific purposes.
Location matters, it might be smart to keep smaller emergency survival kits in your car or at work. Also you might want to keep different styles of kits depending on your location, for example: If you live in the mountains away from large populations in a fairly zombie proof home you might consider keeping a long term stash. On the other hand if you live in an inner city location in a not so zombie proof home you might want to rely more on a light bug-out kit to get you to a safer location.
Before specializing in any type of zombie survival kit for emergency situations it is important to know what items are needed for basic survival. To set up a good survival kit foundation you should know what the most fundamental items needed in almost all disaster situations are. There is a list from the homeland security website;
Recommended Items to Include in a Basic Emergency Supply Kits:
- Water, one gallon of water per person per day for at least three days, for drinking and sanitation
- Food, at least a three-day supply of non-perishable food
- Battery-powered or hand crank radio and a NOAA Weather Radio with tone alert and extra batteries for both
- Flashlight and extra batteries
- First aid kit
- Whistle to signal for help
- Dust mask, to help filter contaminated air and plastic sheeting and duct tape to shelter-in-place
- Moist towelettes, garbage bags and plastic ties for personal sanitation
- Wrench or pliers to turn off utilities
- Can opener for food (if kit contains canned food)
- Local maps
Additional Items to Consider Adding to an Emergency Supply Kit:
- Prescription medications and glasses
- Infant formula and diapers
- Pet food and extra water for your pet
- Important family documents such as copies of insurance policies, identification and bank account records in a waterproof, portable container
- Cash or traveler’s checks and change
- Emergency reference material such as a first aid book survival manuals
- Sleeping bag or warm blanket for each person. Consider additional bedding if you live in a cold-weather climate.
- Complete change of clothing including a long sleeved shirt, long pants and sturdy shoes. Consider additional clothing if you live in a cold-weather climate.
- Household chlorine bleach and medicine dropper – When diluted nine parts water to one part bleach, bleach can be used as a disinfectant. Or in an emergency, you can use it to treat water by using 16 drops of regular household liquid bleach per gallon of water. Do not use scented, color safe or bleaches with added cleaners.
- Fire Extinguisher
- Matches in a waterproof container
- Feminine supplies and personal hygiene items
- Mess kits, paper cups, plates and plastic utensils, paper towels-Paper and pencil
- Books, games, puzzles or other activities for children
These items are great for a basic kit. Creating an zombie survival kit with these supplies would be great for smaller zombie emergencies. These are usually caused by a low grade zombie and everything is usually controlled and back to normal after a few days. Just board up your windows and doors and wait it out.
In larger zombie outbreaks or outbreaks caused by higher grade zombies, the situation gets dramatically worse. It is unlikely that a small zombie survival kit is enough to handle a large zombie uprising.

I’m curious, because I’m seeing all this stuff on the pdf, but to be honest it’s a lot of stuff. Have the guys been training, and what sort of bags are you guys using? To be honest, the new ALICE packs available to the military are good, but if you can find a civilian bag with an inner frame, it could work just as well. And have you taken EMPs into an end-of-days scenarios? Like, what about transportation? All cars and mechanicals will be kaput thanks to electronic ignitions, but some older cars might still work. Any hunkers laying about in the garage you’re not telling us about? And on a second note, I’d really like to see ideas on vehicle modification, ie: riot control microwave guns on trucks, or maybe just a flamethrower or .50cal machine gun. Also, snow plows on the front and slit plating for windows? And, in the case of no EMPs going off, what about fuel and fluids to maintain your vehicle? Thanks for this info, I’ve already put my kit together. 😀
Well that’s a lotta questions! We do train daily, we use the Zombie-Fit workout that you can find in the links on the right-hand side of the page. We also train in Krav Maga the Israeli Self Defense method.
For a pack I personally use the Blackhawk X3 R.A.P.T.O.R. (Ranger Assault Pack Tactical Operations Ruck) with a Hydrastorm Hydration System and an internal Frame Kit. But each team-member has his/her favorite.
We have considered EMPs however if zombies can cause us to nuke ourselves (the most common EMP scenario) we’re in more trouble than just zombies. A nuclear fallout scenario is frightening to say the least.
Vehicle upgrades are tricky. One must consider what is street legal in the state and county in which you reside. If the ZA is upon us I do not want to take several hours to mount a flame-thrower to our ATZPV (All Terrain Zombie Proof Vehicle) because it’s not “street legal” the rest of the time. The most important qualities for us are durability, security and power. All of which our RG32M has.
As far as the supplies go… I personally don’t think what I’ve listed is enough. But our safehouse has several years worth of supplies including a full on triage center.
Well, since I’ve become full blown into this discussion, and I don’t mean to be rude by asking, but… do you actually do all this, still finding time for a job, a family, and a hobby? And, given that some of the team members might have families, what’s their plan? If you guys did, I might actually consider moving to AZ 😛
We do our best to MAKE the time. We always say “Preparation Means Survival”.
Everyone’s families have been thoroughly trained, informed and prepared. Everyone knows the designated meeting place and will head there should there be enough warning. If the situation calls for it we are to hold up at the nearest and safest location until road conditions dictate moving safely to the Safehouse. There will be no rescue by other team members so you are on your own until you reach the Green Zone then the others will assist in cover and extraction into the Safehouse.
So… Yes… We take this VERY seriously.

one thing I want to suggest for those who use Contact Lenses is to have at least TWO ordinary eye glasses. preferably the sort that are durable and won’t get damaged if you accidentally sit down on them. there are many lightweight and scratch-resistant models that should help you endure a prolonged crisis.
everybody’s got some kind of eye problem these days eh?
another important thing to look for are glasses that have slings so that they are not easily misplaced or dislodged. if you have them sporty goggles that you could wrap on top of them, all the better.
perhaps getting eye surgery sooner rather than later should be the golden solution to this too.

I have a question, what if your safehouse gets over run, and it’s damaged beyond repair, where would you go if it was last minute. who would you take, and waht would you bring? And wouldn’t you actually have to have a arsinal or some type of reserve for a ZH (zombie Horde). And If you can tell me what a zombie actually is i would consider the first place i would go is AZ, but until then i would have to head to the mountains or to somwhere cold, and hopefully the Virus wouldn’t survive the extreme cold.
We here in Phoenix are definitely heading to the mountains. We have our safehouse but we also have backups for our backups!
Actually, arctic places and places with really cold temperatures is one of the worstplaces you could go. Its kinda like a freezer, the zombie could freeze in its tracks and actually become preserved. where as in a humid and hot climate, the zombie’s decomposition would actually be hurried, like a banana in direct sunlight.

Oh ok, so i figure that would be the safest location to protect and forge for food, if your good with that type of terrain, and wildlife. Depending on how large the Zombie outbreak is, i would head to canada or somewhere where the virus could possibly not survive. Just remember we are on the same team, never forget what you have to do, and always (S.T.O.P) Stop, think, observe, plan. Have a peaceful abd prosperous life. on Z-Day i will officially be called Oklahoma, just in case we run across each other in Z-Land. Till Z-Day man, goodluck.
I don’t know if you’ve read World War Z (you can find it in the Literature section) but there is a whole chapter about staying on the tundra. They freeze and then thaw in the spring even hungrier than before so stay vigilant Oklahoma! I like the S.T.O.P. I’m going to post that today with credit to you.

Sure Grenades and an M67 would be ideal. But I am a civilian and they are illegal/too expensive. A MiniGun on my balcony would be UNREAL but it’s unrealistic.
What’s gonna happen when you run out of bullets? Better switch to KENDO classes and buy a Katana, or two or three. Blades never run outta bullets. I have a Katana, a Wakizashi and a Tanto. A trifecta of slice-age.
DGB loves guns. A lot… but we also know bullets run out so we always teach Survivor Powered Weapons are a necessity. I personally carry 2 Special Forces shovels from Cold Steel. If you use the search feature on the page here you’ll find a post and video of the tool.

The best policy is to lay low and use stealth and use melee weapons whenever possible. But let’s face it, none of us are Chuck Norris so Hot Lead levels the playing field. Granted Zombies are dangerous but a hungry and thirsty human is far more dangerous. That’s why I have a boomstick…. and hand-cannons… and a crossbow… and 2 Cold Steel Special Forces Shovels… the list goes on and on.

I have a few Items that I have yet to see anyone come up with:
1.I have a 16G ebook reader that has hundreds of books on it, everything from Improvised munitions manuals, edible plants, to electrical, psychology and proper disposal of bodies
2. Peanut/Pea lighters. Google these,Buy the expensive ones, this is THE BEST tool for staring fires, waterproof, refillable, small, light, impossible to destroy, and if you buy ten like me you don’t have to worry about losing em.
3. I disagree with tents and survival blankets, tents because you have no fast escape route, survival blankets because they don’t last long. Instead I would opt for A survival blanked/tarp hybrid carried at MEC and Cabelas. Strong, durable and takes up a lot less room than a tent. And can save your ass when it gets cold out+ reflect heat from a fire onto you.
Survival is not a theoretical practice to me. It is an essential part of my life. I am an avid hunter(traditional bow, crossbow, firearms), fisherman, whitewater kayaker and mountaineer. My career is a surveyor(I go into the wilderness all day, with 1 other person and basically roam around taking measurements and making maps) in northern Alberta. Every tool/weapon I own I know how to use and MAINTAIN(why does no one ever mention this) well. Tools are nothing without knowledge. Pack light, be vigilant, and aid those weaker than you.
Great comment TallMike. Sorry for the delay, I had to take a few days off. I agree with everything you just said. In a recent discussion on our Facebook page I defended the use of cell-phones/tablets etc. Several commenters said that phones would be useless and I countered with the point you made. I have every book you discussed as well and will be using it to save my ass in the ZA. I have looked up both of the Peanut/Pea lighters and the blanked/tarp hybrid and will be posting on them today. Ok, since a very young age (7or 8) i have been really interested in survival and have put plenty of hours into researching survival-ism and what i might need to do if and when a WSHTF scenario were to come upon us. And i firmly believe that i have what it takes to survive alone, or alongside my friends/family.
But here’s the problem;
I can’t exercise ANY survival methods as i live in a small town( 9k pop.) and NOBODY else shares the same idea of “being ready for anything”, so i don’t have anyone who i could practice any survival “Scenarios” or what have you. Now,im only 15 (going on 16 in september), and, if i were to start packing my own bugout bag and “preparing” something like that, my parents would just think im dumb and tell me to discontinue it. Though i DO want to do it anyhow.
I was just wanting to ask you if there was anything you think i could do to “practice” survival methods in town and if you knew of any “Zombie Pandemic Survivalist Teams” located in wisconsin?
And,when i come of age, i was wondering if the team would be interested in taking me in? Because i take these things VERY seriously and this is the first time i have ever actually heard of an organised survivalist group dedicated to this stuff as i am.

shotgun would be the best to blow up there brain but a m16 is good for short and long range and it becomes a nice little hole in ther head but its pretty loud luckly you got your crosbow to keep it sillent and splatter the blood on the wals nice

I have a Glock 22 .40S&W with 800 180grain JHP rounds, A Remington 597 .22 w/scope with 3000 rounds (figured it’d be an easy headshot under 75 yards), A Mosin Nagant w/Scope 1000 rounds of mil-surp FMJ, A Mauser 8mm with a 4x-14x 52mm scope for 500 yard+ 500 SP hunting rounds, An AR-15 (with zombie lower and Zombie Killer dust cover) with 1200 rounds of .223, a tactical shotgun with pistol grip, illuminated ghost sights 400 shells and a down and dirty Winchester 94AE .44magnum with 500 rounds. Every pay check I add a little bit more. Whether it be Z-DAY or Canada Grows a pair and invades I’m ready lol.

A good “zombie vehicle” would be a ford crown vic. Can get one cheap from a police auction. Strip it of all the useless electronics and such (if left intact during auction) and you’ll save hundreds of pounds. Then add extra protection over the windows as you see fit. V8, so has plenty of power to haul gear. Only problem, is they aren’t 4wheel drive. Whatever city you go to, if something breaks down, you’ll be able to find spare parts relatively easy off of ANY cop car. Plus it has multiple batteries. Keep it in your garage with all batteries disconnected in case of EMP. Connect batteries, and you’re good to go. Even if you have a dedicated zombie vehicle, a crown vic for scouting purposes is a really good idea.
