We always want you to be prepared for the Zombie Apocalypse and part of that preparation is having the right weapons ready to go at a minute’s notice. Sure guns are great and believe me, we have plenty, but bullets won’t last forever and unless you have an ammo refilling station they will quickly become a precious commodity used for emergency situations only. So you are going to need some Survivor Powered weapons to keep you safe. Today we are going to look at the Gurkha Kukri. The kukri is a curved Nepalese Knife used as both a tool and as a weapon. Get the scoop below the fold and have a look at the Cold Steel video showing their Gurkha Kukri San Mai III in action.
Carpenter Ants (Camponotus leonardi) in Thailand are being infected with a fungus (Ophiocordyceps) that slowly takes over the ant’s mind and body, and undoubtedly their souls turning them into Zombie Ants. The fungus causes the ant to lose it’s bearings and eventually fall out of the trees that they call home. The Zombie Ants fall to the ground and the Fungus makes the ant clamp down on a leaf and then at noon… and I do mean at EXACTLY noon… the ant dies and the fungus then sprouts out of it’s head (see image above) infecting any other ant that comes by.
The whole process takes three to nine days from initial infection for the ants to become completely zombified and for most of those days the ants actually go about their business as usual showing no signs of the infection that is rapidly destroying their brains and muscle tissue.
Ultimately, the researcher hopes his work will lead to practical applications, such as biological insecticides that can target pests. Many species of carpenter ant, for instance, can cause structural damage to buildings as the bugs carve their nests in damp wood.
If you ask me these scientists should be making sure that the fungus won’t make it’s way into humans. Nothing would be worse than a zombie with leaves growing out of it’s head.
Thanks to the Professor for sending me this.

Here’s the video trailer for “Dylan Dog: Dead of Night”. Looks like it might be funny but Vampires suck. “Dylan Dog: Dead of Night” is a new horror/comedy film based on one of the world’s most popular comics (60 million copies worldwide). Brandon Routh, who you may know as the new Superman stars as Dylan Dog, world famous private investigator specializing in affairs of the undead. His PI business card reads “No Pulse? No Problem.” Armed with an edgy wit and carrying an arsenal of silver and wood-tipped bullets, Dylan must track down a dangerous artifact before a war ensues between his werewolf, vampire and zombie clients living undercover in the monster infested backstreets of New Orleans.
One of our favorite weapons in the Zombie Apocalypse is an axe. They have no working parts, are easily carried and simply need sharpening to make them deadly, or re-deadly in the case of those damn brain eating zombies. Here’s a great instructional video by the guys over at AZBushcraft. Head on over and check out their other videos including, knife handling, straight razor shaving and camping in comfort. Video is below the fold.
