Are you prepared for anything? Here’s some links you WILL need!

All of us here at Don’t Get Bit get a lot of shit from our friends, family and even strangers about the whole “Zombie Survival” schtick. The truth is that none of us here really believe that deceased humans will get up and walk around someday. We do however believe that if you take the Zombie out of Zombie Preparedness you are just left with Preparedness.

With all of the disasters that we have witnessed over the last few years from Japan to the hurricane a few weeks ago we see Survivors. Sometimes it’s just blind luck that get’s you through a disaster or terrorist attack, but what you do afterwards makes you a Survivor. In a recent post I highlighted the CDC’s attempt at a tongue in cheek look at preparing for the Zombie Apocalypse, but what they were actually trying to do was put a new package on their message of “Be Prepared”. The exact same message we preach here every day.

So take a few minutes and look around you. What would you do if one minute you were sitting on your couch and the next everything in every direction was wiped off the face of the Earth. What would you have ready to save your friends, neighbors and family? Take some time this week to check out the following links we are providing you and get your house prepared. For the cost of a single night out on the town you can be a Survivor of any disaster, be it Zombies or a terrorist attack. Stay vigilant my friends.

“Credible” Terrorist Threat in DC & NYC… Are You Prepared? Links that could Save Your Life.

A “Credible” threat in NYC & DC has Homeland Security, the FBI, Police, and National Guard working overtime to stop what could be a series of bombings on the east coast on the 10 Year anniversary of 9-11.

Federal and local authorities have beefed up security after receiving intelligence about a credible threat. The alleged plot by al Qaeda involves detonating car bombs on bridges and in tunnels in New York and Washington D.C. to coincide with the anniversary of 9/11.

Zombie Contributor Contest Contestant Edward: WTSHTF: Hospitals, Majax and Contingencies

Here is the third contestant vying for the coveted Contributor Position here at Don’t Get Bit. A fantastic look at Hospitals, Majax and Contingencies by Edward. To vote simply hit the like button at the bottom of the post!

The hospital is arguably the most vital location at the beginning of any potential undead outbreak. Consider any accident or emergency; we call 999 or 911 and get help from police, paramedics and fire department since they are there to aid the public and are all noble services that try their utmost every single day. We depend on these people to save us in our times of need. A hospital is the place where we go to heal, recover and receive professional help and it’s always the right thing to do to seek medical attention should you need it at your local GP surgery or hospital. Should anyone ever get bitten by any animal, wild, trained pet or human, they would get help and for anybody reading this that would involve getting ones behind to the nearest hospital. When a catastrophe occurs, or “when the s**t hits the fan” (WTSHTF), we know where to run usually.

Zombie Contributor Contest Contestant Chef: The Nutritional Guide to Surviving the Zombie Apocalypse

Here is the first contestant vying for the coveted Contributor Position here at Don’t Get Bit. A fantastic look at The Nutritional Guide to Surviving the Zombie Apocalypse by Chef. To vote simply hit the like button at the bottom of the post!

I come in peace (for the most part), and would just like to say… I hate zombies. Yes, that’s right, I said it. Now, don’t get offended, all you brain munchers out there. For whatever reason, you decided to read this post, and you really only have yourself to blame for that. It’s only fair that I write it out loud, here and now, so you know from the get-go that we are not friends. Besides, the fact that one of your “buddies” suggested you check out this blog and you actually fell for it proves that you really are a lower lifeform, and I would really recommend reconsidering your choice of “friends.” *sigh* zombies these days… Well, I think we’ve all learned a valuable lesson, and it just goes to show that a little honesty and a big concrete building with reinforced entrances and double barrelled, loaded shotguns can go a long way.  ^.^So get lost, you bacteria and parasite infested flesh barrels. This stuff isn’t for you.

Now that THAT’s out of the way, we can continue on to a more interesting discussion! Today’s topic: The Nutritional Guide to Surviving the Zombie Apocalypse. What you need to know to avoid starvation and a fate worse than… well, at least just as bad as, death.

Zombie Apocalypse Knowledge: Zombie Identification

Epic Post Warning! In the Zombie Apocalypse few things could be as important as Zombie Identification. Being able to identify Zeds at close range or at a distance should be an important Zombie Survival Skill that any Survivor should have already mastered. Nothing could be worse than friendly fire by those you trust and who trust you. A mistake like killing your best Medic could be team shattering and life ending for everyone on your Zombie Apocalypse Survival Team. Tonight to help bring the Independent Zombie Film being produced here in Mesa Arizona that is currently looking for as many zombies as possible, we are going to look at how to identify a Zombie or Zom or Zed at a distance or up close, Don’t Get Bit presents… Zombie Apocalypse Knowledge: Zombie Identification. This will also be a good analog for dressing as a Zombie if you wish to be a part of the movie.

CDC Warns Public to Prepare for ‘Zombie Apocalypse’

Links to the CDC have been updated…

Are you prepared for the impending zombie invasion? That’s the question posed by the Centers for Diseases Control and Prevention in a Monday blog posting gruesomely titled, “Preparedness 101: Zombie Apocalypse.” And while it’s no joke, CDC officials say it’s all about emergency preparation.

“There are all kinds of emergencies out there that we can prepare for,” the posting reads. “Take a zombie apocalypse for example. That’s right, I said z-o-m-b-i-e a-p-o-c-a-l-y-p-s-e. You may laugh now, but when it happens you’ll be happy you read this, and hey, maybe you’ll even learn a thing or two about how to prepare for a real emergency.”

The post, written by Assistant Surgeon General Ali Khan, instructs readers how to prepare for “flesh-eating zombies” much like how they appeared in Hollywood hits like “Night of the Living Dead” and video games like Resident Evil. Perhaps surprisingly, the same steps you’d take in preparation for an onslaught of ravenous monsters are similar to those suggested in advance of a hurricane or pandemic.

NYC Releases Manual For the Apocalypse

The state of New York has released a document entitled the “New York State Public Health Legal Manual” that tells to rescuers, doctors and government officials how the judicial system would work in the even of the zombie apocalypse, a terrorist attack, major radiological or chemical contamination or some other widespread epidemic. You can download the PDF by clicking the link above or by clicking the picture to the left. According to Professor Shauna Disastro, DontGetBit’s soon to be Professor of “Zombology and Survivalist Studies”… “I find very little about it shocking or surprising, nor that it is so detailed, it IS New York… the over governmented beaucratic craphole”.

Imagine if you will… The ultimate zombie apocalypse is upon us and the government is trying to regain control. Zombies and fleeing humans run the streets. The blood of the world flows into the Earth as you and your team of Zombie Survivalists hold up in your safe house, defending your families lives from the zombie hoards that roam the streets trying to eat you! The government orders Martial Law. What powers does the government hold? How does the justice system work? Both are are powerful questions with difficult answers. But how about more serious questions like what to do in quarantines, closing businesses, mass evacuations, warrant-less searches of homes, killing of infected animals and seizure of property, when laws can be suspended and whether infectious people can be isolated against their will or subjected to mandatory treatment.

The most interesting line in the manual according to the NYTimes:

The suspension of laws, it says, is subject to constitutional rights. But then it adds, “This should not prove to be an obstacle, because federal and state constitutional restraints permit expeditious actions in emergency situations.”
